History Of  Ramakkalmedu
It is believed that Lord Rama(Hindu god in epic Ramayana) stepped in this place when he was searching for his wife Sita, who was abducted by the king Ravana of Lanka he stepped onto the Ramakkalmedu peak and thus it got its name. The literally meaning of Rama-Kal-Medu is “Land of Rama’s Stone” or Land where Rama kept his leg. The wind here is constant at a speed around 35 km/hour throughout the year irrespective of the season and time.

Wind farm: You cannot talk about Ramakkalmedu without saying about its winds. The wind speed in Ramakkalmedu is found to be the fastest in Asia, which is so blessed with its winds that there is a wind farm built in order to generate electricity from wind power. Statue of Kuruvan & Kuruthi: The journey remains incomplete without a walk to the Kuravan Kurathi statue located nearby. it located at the top of one of the Ramakkalmedu hills is one of the major tourist sites in Ramakkalmedu which is also of historical significance.  It was launched in 1st August of 2005, C.B. Jinan Shadod of Balaramapuram is the architecture of this famous statue. It houses the uppermost twin-statue in Kerala namely that of Kuravan and Kurathi. This is the monument that portrays the Sangam landscape of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. And this hill offers a spectacular view of Tamilnadu, from this side you can see Ramakkalmedu wind energy farm.
